Faculty Lounge: [1/9]

After Shop, Mac opens up the lounge and brings in some fresh coffee not from class bagles, muffins and doughnuts.

He then kicks back on one of the sofas and reads the most recent issue of "The Daily Bugle".

Swinging between classes, she's desperate for a cup of coffee. Coming in, she smiles at the giant TV. Sitting on the couch, she flips on CSPAN.

She shrugs, "Class is class. Got to know the kids. Told everybody there is no murder attempts on mallowed this quarter. It's looking good." she flashes a bright smile. "The coffee makes things better."

"Good to know. I didn't have a Crichton kid on my roster...what happened?" She mutes the tv, but doesn't shut it off as she turns to give him her mostly full attention.

"That sounds...engaging. Mine got to talk. Communication, you know. Sometimes it's like pulling teeth...and others won't shut up. Why from the junkyard, instead of something else?"

"That's basically what I do!" Leaning forward a bit, she holds her cup lightly. "Aristotle said that rhetoric is finding and utilizing, in a given situation, the available means of persuasion. And you get them to find and use the available materials to accomplish a physical...whoa. Teacher dork moment. Sorry." Blushing, she takes a sip.

A quiet voice behind her said, "Speaker of the House is still a dick. I don't care who tries to convince me otherwise."

[identity profile] prof-cregg.livejournal.com 2006-01-09 07:03 pm (UTC)(link)
"Just because you two never saw eye to eye..." she turns and smiles at him for only a second. "I thought we agreed a long time ago you'd come talk to me first Josh."

[identity profile] professor-lyman.livejournal.com 2006-01-09 08:32 pm (UTC)(link)
"I defy you to find anyone in the country who doesn't think he's a dick." Josh smirked. "And I'm saying it to you, not to Capitol Beat. Though they'd agree with me, too. Because the Speaker? Is a dick."

"I'm almost certain I could find one of his constituants who holds him in high regard. Of course, that would mean walking out to a bunker in the woods."

Tucking her legs beeath herself, she turns to face him. "So. How's Donna? And how in the world are you even going to survive here without her? You can't even work the phone."

[identity profile] professor-lyman.livejournal.com 2006-01-09 08:55 pm (UTC)(link)
"I can work the phones," Josh said defensively. "Just not the White House switchboard." He snickered. "And given a message you left me on my machine a few days ago, I'm not sure you should be lecturing me about phone-using skills." He lifted an eyebrow. "Unless you think we've reached a point in our relationship where I'm okay with you calling me 'sweetie.'"

He scrubbed his fingers through his hair. "And I've gotten a TA to help with my campaign class--some guy with a girl's name. I can't remember what it is, so I'm gonna call him Donna."

[identity profile] prof-cregg.livejournal.com 2006-01-09 10:18 pm (UTC)(link)
"But you are very sweet, Josh." She puts on her completely fake smile for him, then takes a sip. "Does this girly-named boy understand the deal with calling him Donna? Because, word tot he wise, some of these kids? Scary."

[identity profile] professor-lyman.livejournal.com 2006-01-09 10:36 pm (UTC)(link)
"I haven't actually done it to him," Josh said. "But in my head assistant equals Donna." He waved it off. "I'm sure he'll get used to it. He seemed like a nice enough kid, if not exactly inclined to chat."

[identity profile] prof-cregg.livejournal.com 2006-01-09 10:41 pm (UTC)(link)
"Whatever will you do with an assistant who doesn't talk a mile a minute.?" Realization dawns on her, "Wait a sec. This non-chatting girly-named boy...Angel?"

[identity profile] professor-lyman.livejournal.com 2006-01-09 11:20 pm (UTC)(link)
"Um, yeah," Josh said, nodding. His attention was back on C-SPAN. "Oh come on," he said. "Who gives a damn what the name of the post office in Milford, Ohio is?" He glared at the television. "Be more interesting, dammit!"

[identity profile] prof-cregg.livejournal.com 2006-01-09 11:46 pm (UTC)(link)
She stares at him for all of two seconds. "You think you're going to get away with calling Angel 'Donna"? WOW are you stupid...he's...do you know what he is?"

[identity profile] professor-lyman.livejournal.com 2006-01-10 12:00 am (UTC)(link)
"An undead American," Josh replied, nodding. "An untapped but potentially important demographic in the voting electorate."

[identity profile] prof-cregg.livejournal.com 2006-01-10 12:03 am (UTC)(link)
"Oh, yeah. Get Joey right on that polling data." Smirking at him, she finishes her coffee. "Besides your new assistant, how are you adjusting? Shoes arent' giving you any problems, are they?"

[identity profile] professor-lyman.livejournal.com 2006-01-10 12:28 am (UTC)(link)
"Well, if you're looking for long-term loyal voters, I can't think of a group who's gonna be more long term that people who don't die." He shrugged. "Also explains a lot about the Chicago voter lists."

He looked at her. "I've met vampires and a green demon in a karaoke bar. I went into a karaoke bar. So, yeah. Not so much with the adjusting."

[identity profile] prof-cregg.livejournal.com 2006-01-10 12:29 am (UTC)(link)
"Did you sing? Tell me you sang."

[identity profile] professor-lyman.livejournal.com 2006-01-10 12:38 am (UTC)(link)
"I didn't sing. I don't sing. I have no intention, now or ever, of singing."

[identity profile] prof-cregg.livejournal.com 2006-01-10 12:39 am (UTC)(link)
"Then don't eat in the cafeteria."
