Lounge: 24 January

After a bit of negotiation with Biff (i.e. 'Of course, I'm the bloody Doctor, didn't you hear the bloody announcement? Yes, my hair is now red. Is that a PROBLEM?!'), the now ginger Doctor stumbles into the lounge this morning with multiple shopping bags.

They are filled with donuts and Coke and coffee and tea and...junk food, really. From both Britain and America.
And some fruits and vegetables cut up for those who don't fancy that sort of thing. losers With dips.

Ten minutes of fiddling with the sonic screwdriver and a bunch of swearing in multiple languages later, the TV now gets SkyOne, and he settles in to watch some trashy telly.

"Literature? How delightful," she says with an easy smile. "Have you been teaching at Fandom High long?"

"I've lived in Fandom itself for longer, but I started teaching in the middle of last term." He returns the smile. "And yourself? What are you teaching?"

"Ah," she says. "I teach war tactics this semester. Last semester I taught cyborg theory."

She smirks. "The students here are ... quite different, I must say. Did you teach somewhere else before coming here?

"War tactics. That sounds interesting. Should I assume that 'cyborg theory' is something science-related that I'm not going to understand?"

Geoff grins. "Yes, I'll agree with you about the students. And the townspeople in general. But this is actually my first time teaching. Before I came here I was just a wandering poet and ne'er-do-well."

"My cyborg was more on sociology issues than science, really," she admits.

"A wandering poet, eh? Written anything I know?" she asks.

"Probably not yet, unless you've read The Book of the Duchess, which is allegorical I doubt you have. But most of the people I've run into seem to think at some point I'm going to write something called Canterbury Tales, and it sounds as though that's going to be pretty popular."

Geoff shrugs and takes a sip of his coffee, grinning over his cup.

Sam was never very knowledgeable about this sort of thing back when she was a human. She left that to Daniel. "Ah, well... sounds familiar," she says politely. "Do you write every day or just when the mood strikes you?"

[identity profile] geoff-chaucer.livejournal.com 2006-01-24 06:56 pm (UTC)(link)
"Ah...when the mood strikes, I suppose. Unless there's something I'm actively trying to finish, in which case I usually lock myself in my flat and don't come out for a few days."

He gives her a curious look. "Tell me more about this tactics of war class you're teaching."

[identity profile] replicarter.livejournal.com 2006-01-24 08:08 pm (UTC)(link)
"Lock yourself in your flat and not come out for days? My, my," she says, "Very focused you are."

"Ah, it's just a little theory class to spice up student's schedules, I suppose. Many of them already have some military background so it's useful to some, entertaining to others."

[identity profile] geoff-chaucer.livejournal.com 2006-01-24 08:15 pm (UTC)(link)
Geoff shrugs again. "Sometimes that's the best way to work. Other times, getting out among people and experiencing things is the way to go. So...I assume you must have some military experience yourself, then?"

[identity profile] replicarter.livejournal.com 2006-01-24 08:16 pm (UTC)(link)
She nods. "Yeah, a fair bit of experience here and there."

"What sorts of things do you write about?"

[identity profile] geoff-chaucer.livejournal.com 2006-01-24 08:28 pm (UTC)(link)
"I served with Edward's army against the French for a short time," he replies, nodding.

"What do I write about? Everything, really. People, my experiences on my travels, ideas I've been inspired by from the work of others. People mostly though, that's what really interests me. I'm working on a set of tales about Fandom right now."
