After a bit of negotiation with Biff (i.e. 'Of course, I'm the bloody Doctor, didn't you hear the bloody announcement? Yes, my hair is now red. Is that a PROBLEM?!'), the now ginger Doctor stumbles into the lounge this morning with multiple shopping bags.

They are filled with donuts and Coke and coffee and tea and...junk food, really. From both Britain and America.
And some fruits and vegetables cut up for those who don't fancy that sort of thing. ~~losers~~ With dips.

Ten minutes of fiddling with the sonic screwdriver and a bunch of swearing in multiple languages later, the TV now gets SkyOne, and he settles in to watch some trashy telly.

Lorelai grabbed a doughnut and took a bite before answering. She let out a deep sigh.

"Oh, that's heaven," she said. "And no, it's not my first. My daughter, Rory, is a student here. Have you met her?"

"Oh, of course. Yes, I filled out a library card application with her almost a week ago. She was very helpful; I really should pick that up. You have the same eyes, I should have realized it." Susan cocked her head. "You don't look old enough to have a daughter Rory's age, I must say. And... have you lived here very long? I'm finding Fandom a little overwhelming, still."

"I was only sixteen when I had Rory, so I'm not really old enough to have a kid her age. But she's a great kid. And we moved here at the beginning of the school year. I took a part time teaching position and my husband opened a diner in town. This place is crazy. We fought zombies and my daughter was attacked by a vampire."

Susan gaped at this matter-of-fact recitation, then shook her head, trying to smile. "Right, then. I think my acclimation has been utterly smooth by comparison. Rory seemed quite well when I saw her, I would never have guessed. And would this be the Angel I hear so much about, or one of the others, whose posters are everywhere?" Susan bit her lip. "Forgive me for prying, if this is an unpleasant subject."

Lorelai rolls her eyes. "It was Angel. Or, I should say, Angelus. He's trying to be like P. Diddy by changing his name. According to the former principal though, he won't be hurting anyone else's kid." She's not the least bit bitter, oh no, not Lorelai.

Susan winced. "I'm so sorry. Everyone that's mentioned him has by and large, seemed so confident in his lack of threat. I think this is the first time anyone mentioned a specific attack of any kind." She shook her head. "I hope the former principal was correct. The number of things they don't tell you about this school...."

"I think if they told us everything up front, none of us would be here. But, for the most part, it's been a good place for all of us. I hope you like it here, too. I take it you're fairly new?"

"Second week here. It's been quiet, I only have a few appointments, so I thought I'd keep stopping by, and make sure the faculty knew there was a counselor available now." She made a face. "The previous practice of using a student volunteer probably put people off from asking."

She shook her head ruefully. "But you'd think they'd tell you that you were going forty years into the future, wouldn't you? If only so you wouldn't burst into tears at an inopportune moment."

Lorelai nodded as she ate another doughnut. She almost choked on it when Susan said something about 40 years in to the future.

She swallowed and said, "You're from the past?"

"Perhaps I should wear a nametag." Susan quirked her mouth. "With a little note that says, 'Shrink from 1962'. Perhaps people will ask me what I'm shrinking from, and learn something?" She shrugged. "But yes, London and Wales, January, 1962. And after I found out Elvis was dead, I declared a moratorium on finding out anything more for a while. Did I miss much?"

"Much? Only the greatest decade ever. You'll totally have to come over sometime and I'll introduce you to 80s music."

Susan laughed. "80's music? Seriously? Not the 70's, or the 90's? I think I'd like an introduction, certainly. It's all so confusing. I've been using the school computers to 'surf' the internet, and I keep ending in a tangle, and can't keep it all straight." She made a face. "Especially since it seems there's more than one past. Tell me, is President Bush in office in your world, or President Bartlet?"

"Bush," Lorelai said, rolling her eyes. "And I would be more than happy to introduce you to popular culture over the last few decades. I'm somewhat of an expert."

Susan dimpled. "How does one become an expert? School or independent study? And I'd very much like that, if it wouldn't be any trouble. I've not yet found much to do outside of school aside from exploring the island, which is lovely enough, but not possible in all weather."

"You become an expert by completely immersing yourself in it," Lorelai explained with a grin. "Well, my husband and I have a house on the mainland, just across the causeway. You'd be welcome to come over any time. Or, you could stop by my office at the school. I'm usually here on Tuesdays and Thursdays."

"Then I shall do that, my schedule permitting. Perhaps this Thursday we could get coffee?" She grinned. "I keep saying I will get coffee with people, and then we both forget. I think they get very busy here without any warning."
