Mmm, coffee.

Grissom grabs a cup of coffee and rolls his eyes at the Telemundo programming. There are days when he wishes he didn't understand Spanish.

With a radiant smile, the likes of which haven't been seen in weeks, she looks up from the telenovella to him.

"Buenos dias, Gil!"

"Buenos días," he says warmly, his face immediately brightening upon seeing CJ. "How have you been? How was your time off?"

"It was fantastic. Not much better than being drunk in Mexico with girl friends. although I did fall behind a bit. Oh! I have a present for you. I picked it up just outside of Cabo."

"You'll catch up quickly," he says with a shrug of his shoulders, before smirking. "A present? Should I be concerned?"

"Not at all! I know what you like. It's in my room, let me go get it, I'll be right back."

Uncurling from the sofa, she lefther coffee and dashed out without waiting for a reply.

Grissom stared at her retreating form with just a bit of wonder, but chuckled under his breath and took a seat on the sofa, looking around vaguely for the remote.

"I hope you like it, Gil. I thought if anyone could appreciate it, it would be you."

He laughs, a huge smile on his face as he takes the gift from her, and turns it gently in his hands as he studies it.

"I do like it, very much indeed. Thank you," he says, his expression bright with gratitude and a boyish sense of excitement. "How did you explain this one to your girl friends, however?"

"I just told them about you a little and they thought it was sweet. Donna actually bought you a sucker that was margarita flavored with a big grasshopper in it. But she ate it."

She retrieved her coffee and smiled at him, "Actually, Abbie thought you sounded fascinating. She's a doctor, too."

"What's her specialty?" he inquires, totally oblivious and innocent.

"Well, First Lady mostly, but she's a thorasic surgeon in her free time." The barest hint of a grin flickers across her lips as she keeps the the juicy bits of that story hidden. "She also teaches at Harvard Med from time to time."

He laughs a little under his breath.

"Right, your friend Abbie. Of course. You know, I think I've heard her name before, now that you mention it," he says dryly, obviously amused. "I actually had a case with a suspect who was a cardio-thorasic fellow once. But it was actually an Angel of Death nurse, and the poisons had made it appear that the heller myotomy had been performed with malicious..."

He shakes his head, and takes a sip of his coffee. "So, you went on tequila-soaked vacation to Mexico with Abigail Bartlet?"

"Oh, yes. Abbie, Amy Gardner...she's Abbie's Chief of Staff, and Donna Moss. She's the Seior Assistant to the Deputy Chief of Staff."

Holding her mug in both hands, she grins softly.

"It was just what I needed. I'm thinking of chaperoning some of the girls to Cancun this summer."

"Some of our girls?" he asks rather incredulously, although he's still smiling. "As in, our students? That's... brave."

"Not really. I took Parker to New York and went to Fifth Avenue. If I can do that? I can absolutely handle Cancun." she nods decisively.

Even if they got drunk, at least they wouldn't be the hurricane through Neiman Marcus that she and Parker had been at Christmas.

"Shopping is a more alluring temptress than liquor?" Grissom asks with an arched eyebrow.

"I still find it to be a courageous activity, regardless. Good luck with that. I wish I could offer to accompany you, but my schedule probably won't allow it for ten years or so. Not that you'd need the help, mind you, but Mexico has some interesting species, and I haven't been since I was... twenty, I think."

"If you can find the time, you should come. Or, hey...you and Sara could go on your honeymoon." she says, also totally oblivious and innocent.

"If tequila and travel to countries where you can't drink the water weren't out of the question, we might have considered it. We've decided to fly home for a long weekend when we have a chance, as soon as we can manage," he says with a soft smile, so used to everyone knowing his business in town it doesn't register with him that CJ wouldn't know.

She looks absolutely confused, but nods. "Short engagement then?"

"It makes sense logically, all things considered. If we wait, we may end up waiting for a few years, and neither of us want that. And if she's willing to marry me, I'd be a fool not to take the opportunity," he says with a slight grin.

"There's no question in my mind, so..." he adds in a serious moment. "If you can spare another weekend, you'd be welcome, of course. It's last minute..."

"Ok, wait. You're both teaching here, why would you have to wait?" she shrugs and cocks her head. "I mean, it's not like she's heading off through time and space to tackle the color mauve."

He laughs, and takes another sip of his coffee non-chalantly.

"We would have no problem waiting for a while, but I don't think either of us can convince the baby to do the same."

Her eyes grew wider..."Oh..."

and her jaw dropped..."My..."

then her hands flew up to cover her unnaturally wide smile..."GOD!..."

Springing out of her chair, she wrapped her arms around him and hugged him warmly, "Congratulations, Gil! I had no idea! When is she due? Is she feeling ok? Do you need anything? Oh! Babies come with hats...that's what Toby would say. Oh my God, I'm so happy for you two!"

He seems a little startled at first, but quickly relaxes and returns the embrace.

"Not until the fall. She's healthy, but the morning sickness has been fairly severe, and she's still adjusting. If we need anything, I promise to let you know. I don't know if they'll give the baby a hat, but I assume it's a possibility."

His voice chokes up just a little. ~~Can it.~~ "And thank you, CJ, thanks."

"Oh, this is the best news so far today! Married with babies...you can raise little forensic entomologists. You're welcome, Gil."

Sitting down, she picks up a chip and stops mid bite, "Is she going to keep working?"

It's not unheard of...if Andie can do it, surely Sara can.

He shakes his head a little. Married with a baby. Oh good lord, it's still sinking in.

"She's fairly adamant that she wants to work, although I don't know if she'll continue teaching here."

He sighs a little before continuing. "Neither of us think the island is a safe place for her or the baby. When it was just the two of us..." he grips his coffee cup. "She's had offers before to write textbooks that she's exploring as another option. And I can commute from off-island, maybe keep the apartment on campus for a while."

He goes for the chips out of habit. "Unless you want it, of course. It's twice the size of the normal faculty apartment."

"You'd...leave?"

Her smile faded incrimentally, but not entirely. "Ask me again if you actually give it up. More room might be nice. But I...I just moved in. Not quite used to saying howdy neighbor to you." grinning a bit more she snags another chip. "But you're right. It's barely safe enough for the students. No way it's anywhere to raise a child."

"Lorelai, Gilmore... do you know her? We share an office. Anyway, she commutes from off-campus, so I think Sara and I can make it work," he says a little hesitantly.

"And I'm serious about the apartment. It's one bedroom, but we both have offices. You could easily convert Sara's office to a guest bedroom for your son, or anyone else. I could probably be talked into moving out fully sooner if I could crash on your couch from time to time," he says with a wide smile.

She waves dismissively, "Jack likes his own room. But a spare room might be nice. You could absolutely stay any time you wanted."

As much as she hates to admit it, enough room for all her shoes would be nice.

"Tell you what? We'll burn that bridge when we come to it, ok?"

"You don't want to have a sleepover with me?" he asks, obviously busting her chops.

Giving him a hard look and a totally shit eating grin, she leans in and says dryly, "Gil, you want to make out with me, don't you?"

He loses it, and snorts out a laugh.

"You're the legal expert, can I plead the Fifth?"

A ringing laugh bubbles out in return, "Yeah. The Fifth might be a good idea. You're always welcome to crash at my place, Gil. You know that."

"And you know the same courtesy is always available to you, here or anywhere else. But if you burn down my townhouse in Vegas, you're filling out the insurance claims, not me."

"Oooh, Vegas. I hadn't thought about that. You're my best friend, Gil."

Her shoulders shake as she tries to hold in a laugh.

"I see how it is," he says, chuckling as he reaches back for the chips. "You're just using me for my real estate-ish charms."

[OOC: I'm going to bed soon, so wrap this thread in the next few? But I was thinking we could do another, more serious thread about faith/etc. sometime this week. Would you be interested? Gil's an ex-Catholic, but with impending fatherhood I thought the subject could make excellent play with CJ esp. as someone he trusts deeply.]

"Your charms are numerous and enchanting, Gil. Property is only one of the things I like about you."

She gets up to pour another cup and shakes her head, "We're out of coffee. I'm going to run down to my place and get some of the good stuff so I can take it to class."

"That sounds like a sound plan to me."

Gil grabs his briefcase, and stands up. "I have class soon, as well. CJ..." he trails off, a little at a loss because being emotional still trips him up. "Have a good day. And thanks, you know."

"I know, Gil. You're welcome...and thank you back. I'll see you around."

She holds the door for him, and heads the opposite direction down to get some good Oaxaca Pluma.

Mmm, taquitos.

Mmm, advanced comm.

Mmm, tortillas y salsa.
