"People disappear like the squid did?" Josh asked, blinking a little rapidly. "Any connection between the two? I don't know? Some kind of squid-love commune?"

He looked appalled. "I can't believe I just said that."

Jenny looked embarrassed. "Sorry. The squid vanished sometime after they fired my predecessor--the last psych teacher. She kept it as a pet. The people? No one really knows." She'd tell him the police were probably looking into it, but that would be a lie. She was sure the police weren't bothering. They never did. "Going out alone at night? Not so much a good idea."

"You get used to the weird fast, don't you?" asked Jenny. "Pretty soon you won't even notice it."

"Professional political operative," Josh said with a smile. "This is just a different kind of weird."

He poked a few more keys on the laptop and grinned. "Looks like my classes are a hit."

"What the heck are you doing teaching at a high school?" asked Jenny. "I mean, I get it for me, because, hey, actual high school teacher here. On the other hand, politics? Gotta be high stress."

"Go you." Jenny smiled. "I've got less than the full roster for the psych classes, but trust me, not a problem. That's just less grading for me to do. Magical Theory's overfull, though. Didn't expect it to be such a hit."

"Would you believe I'm here to have less stress in my life? My old chief of staff is a funny, funny guy. Told me that CJ was having a good time here, managed to skip right past the gremlins, squids, and zombie attacks. Remind me to thank him."

He grinned. "And I'm glad that my classes are filling up. But," he lowered his voice, "I'm really glad that it seems I'm cooler than CJ. Because gloating? One of my favorite things to do."

"Your old chief of staff must have thought you were a serious pain in the ass," said Jenny. She laughed. "Did CJ tell him about the creepy-crawlies? Y'know, he might not have believed it. A lot of people don't."

Jenny tilted her head and looked consideringly at Josh. "Well, Josh Lyman, you're a smug bastard, aren't you? I have a funny feeling we're going to be friends."

"He did mention that from time to time, yeah," Josh replied. "I took it as a sign of affection."

He grinned at Jenny. "I think you might be right."
