Faculty Meeting - Tuesday Before Classes

The food was there, the guard teddy bear was there, the coffee was there. Everything was set. Hades was fidgeting.

"So, uh," he rubbed the back of his neck. "Here's the thing. The school board is coming to visit next week and they can shut us down if we don't show 'em a good time, so try not to be your usual charming selves."

Thursday blinked. "Yes. Is yours a republic or a monarchy?"

Rose blinked back, this was a surprise. "It's a republic."

Thursday was definitely surprised. "Mine too. Ever heard of Goliath Corporation?" That would be the defining factor.

Will surprises never cease? If it turned out they were from the same dimension and timeline...

"Goliath corporation?" Rose echoed, tilting her head to think it over, "No, can't say I have. Have you heard of Cybermen or Cybus Industries?"

"No, they're not familiar. They don't sound all that appealing, so I'm not entirely sorry about that. But it looks as though some parallel timestreams have similarities. Zeppelins, republics, overbearing multi-national corporations," she trailed off. "Some things never seem to change."

"They're not," Rose said then added, "I have to say your world's the only one that I know that's almost similar to the one I'm from."

"According to my father, there are quite a few timestreams like ours. This one seems to be the odd one out, at least from his perspective and he's seen many of them. He's part of the ChronoGuard, time police. Or...was. It's complicated."

Rose took off her glasses, very intent on Thursday. If there was one thing that could interest Rose faster than aliens, it was time travel. "ChronoGuard? Sounds like the Time Agency."

"They have one where you're from then? Perhaps our worlds are alike in the finer details as well."

"Perhaps," Rose said, warming up to the subject. "I-- in your world do you have aliens too?"

"Aliens as in extra-terrestrials? There aren't as far as I'm aware, but there could be and they haven't been announced to the public yet. I'm from 1990."

Rose nodded. "That time the government's still trying to keep it under wraps, they're still trying to keep it under wraps in my time but the Cyberman wars in 2007 made it more and more impossible to hide."

"Something to look forward to then," Thursday replied, sounding like she definitely wasn't looking forward to another war. "Does your world have dodos, mammoths and Neanderthals?"

"Time displaced creatures?" Rose thought about it, "I've heard of time displaced people not animals but with the way our luck is rolling, I won't be surprised to encounter any of those."

"Cloning extinct species was a popular trend for a while there. The experts found the DNA sequence of a lot of different species, then there was the home cloning trend. I have a pet dodo," Thursday said, stirring more cream into her coffee. "Pickwick."

"Cloning? Don't think we have that back home, thank God." But she brightened. "But a dodo pet sounds lovely!"

"She's very well behaved when she's not begging for marshmallows. Dodos love them. You can stop by some time for coffee and I'll introduce you if you'd like."

Rose nodded grining. "I'd love that. We could trade more stories of our respective homes."
