Faculty Party - Friday Afternoon

Lorelai was grateful that Bucky took a nap for part of the morning. It gave her plenty of time to transport food from the diner to the teacher's lounge.

She got everything set up and even decorated the lounge so it would be a little more festive. Since it's Lorelai, that means she hung up some balloons and streamers and covered everything with glitter.

Everything was ready in plenty of time and she was sitting on one of the couches giving Bucky a bottle, waiting for people to start showing up.

[wait for ocd have at it!]

Abby leaned against the wall next to Aziraphale. "Do you like tomatoes?"

Well, that was certainly an interesting -- and rather Abby -- way of beginning a conversation.

"Yes, my dear, I do. Are we playing a game?" he asked, with a teashing grin.

"We could, although that wasn't what I was planning." Abby thought for a moment and smiled. "Your turn then!"

With a laugh, Aziraphale answered, "All right, let me think. Do you like...avocados?"

[ooc: "teashing" Look, I made a new word. *headdesks*]

"Only when they are mushed up into guacamole." Abby said with a scrunch of her nose. "Otherwise they are gross."

"What's your general feeling on corn?"

[ooc: *pats you* I didn't even notice it till you pointed it out. Friday = NoBrainDay!]

Re: Meet & Mingle

[identity profile] a-phale.livejournal.com 2006-09-08 04:20 pm (UTC)(link)
"I much prefer them when they're not purple and taking over the house as well," Aziraphale agreed.

"Corn, you say? I expect you're referring to the American definition of corn. As in 'corn on the cob'? I rather like it, although I prefer it prepared in something, and not just straight off the ear. Rather messy to eat that way. So...what about leeks?"

Re: Meet & Mingle

[identity profile] cheerfulgoth.livejournal.com 2006-09-08 04:24 pm (UTC)(link)
"What are the non-American definitions of corn?" Abby asked. "I don't like it off the ear either, but that's mostly because corn-on-the-cob is very hard to fix in a microwave."

"Leeks are pretentious onions really."

Re: Meet & Mingle

[identity profile] a-phale.livejournal.com 2006-09-08 04:30 pm (UTC)(link)
"In Europe, 'corn' refers to most types of grain, not just to American maize. So wheat and oats are a type of corn, to them."

He smiled at Abby's definition of leeks. "Perhaps it's because there aren't any saints' days associated with onions, so leeks have developed an overblown self-image."

Re: Meet & Mingle

[identity profile] cheerfulgoth.livejournal.com 2006-09-08 04:34 pm (UTC)(link)
"That's just silly." Abby rolled her eyes. "Europeans."

"I'm not sure I understand the point of leeks. If they can't be breaded and made into rings...then what?" Abby leaned forward and looked around. "I should be quieter, Dr. Wilson probably has some fabulous leek recipe that I'm malinging right now."

Re: Meet & Mingle

[identity profile] a-phale.livejournal.com 2006-09-08 04:44 pm (UTC)(link)
"James has a wonderful recipe for just about anything. And I'll bet if I mentioned your views on leeks, he'd whip something up for you that would change your mind right away."

Aziraphale gave her a mischievous look. "Have you ever had gravlax?"

Re: Meet & Mingle

[identity profile] cheerfulgoth.livejournal.com 2006-09-08 04:47 pm (UTC)(link)
"Normally I'd blanch, but Dr. Wilson could cook cardboard and I'd eat it with a smile on my face." Abby smiled.

"Uh...no. Is it a person?"

Re: Meet & Mingle

[identity profile] a-phale.livejournal.com 2006-09-08 04:59 pm (UTC)(link)
Aziraphale agreed wholeheartedly with Abby's assessment of Wilson's cooking. Although, it was possible he might have been just a wee bit biased.

"Er...no, not a person. It's a food. Made with salmon."

He thought he'd wait and see her reaction to that much information before continuing. Because starting out with 'it's made with raw salmon didn't usually work as well.

Re: Meet & Mingle

[identity profile] cheerfulgoth.livejournal.com 2006-09-08 05:02 pm (UTC)(link)
"Doesn't gravlax sound like it should be the name of a planet on a sci-fi show?" Abby frowned. "Captains Log, we landed on Gravlax 7 today and discovered the natives look a lot like salmon."

"Does it taste good?"

Re: Meet & Mingle

[identity profile] a-phale.livejournal.com 2006-09-08 05:13 pm (UTC)(link)
Aziraphale blinked. As he'd never actually seen a sci-fi show poor deprived angel. But he rather thought any show about a planet where the people looked like salmon was probably not so much up his alley.

"It tastes delightful," he assured Abby. "Takes rather a while to make, as you have to let it cure. And the salmon has to be perfectly fresh, which isn't always easy to get. But James makes it for me every once in a while, when he's trying to get on my good side."

The angel winked when he said that last, figuring Abby would know he was just teasing Wilson.

Re: Meet & Mingle

[identity profile] cheerfulgoth.livejournal.com 2006-09-08 07:57 pm (UTC)(link)
Abby took a moment and then bust out laughing. "You are very sneaky!"

Re: Meet & Mingle

[identity profile] a-phale.livejournal.com 2006-09-08 08:07 pm (UTC)(link)
He gave her a 'who me' sort of look, and then grinned. "Probably a great deal sneakier than most people want to give me credit for. You've found me out, my dear. The tea-books-and-frumpy-sweater look is just a cover. I'm actually a right bastard inside."

It was said in a perfectly cheerful manner, though, and Aziraphale winked again over his teacup. "So then, Miss Scuito, shall we tell James you've never had gravlax before? And while we're at it, will you be telling me why you're so interested in my vegetable opinions?"

Re: Meet & Mingle

[identity profile] cheerfulgoth.livejournal.com 2006-09-08 08:18 pm (UTC)(link)
Abby giggled helplessly for a moment until he mentioned the gravlax. "Um...I think we should just let Dr. Wilson fix things that sound more earthbound."

"Um..." Abby blushed a little. "There's a very good reason I asked you about veggies."

Re: Meet & Mingle

[identity profile] a-phale.livejournal.com 2006-09-08 08:22 pm (UTC)(link)
Aziraphale nodded, making a mental note to talk Wilson into his famous homemade mac-and-cheese next time they knew Abby was coming by.

"I'm sure there is, my dear," he replied gently, seeing the blush. "And you don't even have to tell me what it is. Unless you're planning on filling up my office with tomatos and corn, that is. I may have to object to that."

Re: Meet & Mingle

[identity profile] cheerfulgoth.livejournal.com 2006-09-08 08:32 pm (UTC)(link)
"You have to admit that it would be a prank nobody would expect." Abby shrugged.

"I was working on some tests on the feather the other night and caught a late night showing of one of those killer tomatoes horror flicks." There was a definite blush now. "So I was just checking that you weren't a... killertomatofromouterspace."

Re: Meet & Mingle

[identity profile] a-phale.livejournal.com 2006-09-08 08:36 pm (UTC)(link)
Okay...that wasn't quite the answer he'd expected. Aziraphale gave Abby a long, slightly confused look.

"Er...have I done something to make you believe I might be a...tomato?"

The outer space part, sure, he could understand that. It was the tomato bit that threw him.

Re: Meet & Mingle

[identity profile] cheerfulgoth.livejournal.com 2006-09-08 08:46 pm (UTC)(link)
Abby giggled again and shook her head. "Don't try and think about it logically, Aziraphale. It's not worth it. It was one of those late-night, too much caffiene thoughts that really shouldn't have been drug out in the light of day."

Re: Meet & Mingle

[identity profile] a-phale.livejournal.com 2006-09-08 08:49 pm (UTC)(link)
"Ah." Aziraphale nodded, although he still had no idea what Abby was talking about. That wasn't necessarily an unfamiliar sensation, though, so he let it, figuring even if she did think he was some sort of alien fruit, she didn't seem all that worried about it.

"What, er...have your tests concluded, then?" he asked.

Re: Meet & Mingle

[identity profile] cheerfulgoth.livejournal.com 2006-09-08 09:06 pm (UTC)(link)
"So far...nothing." Abby shook her head. "I think the island is mucking up my tests. Results are turning out, the paper got jammed in the readout machine and Fedex lost the sample I sent back to the lab."

Re: Meet & Mingle

[identity profile] a-phale.livejournal.com 2006-09-08 09:30 pm (UTC)(link)
"Shame, that," Aziraphale murmured, feeling a little guilty about messing with her research. But there was a big difference between Abby figuring things out on her own, and some lab someplace having a file labeled 'angel DNA'. Not that he thought he had DNA. But that would probably be just as weird.

Or maybe he would have DNA, but it would be some strange sort, that didn't make any sense. And it would set back the progress of modern science a hundred years, while they tried to figure out how he fit into the grand scheme.

Nope, definitely better to muck things up.

But he wanted to give Abby a fair shot at it, too. So he smiled, with his best ineffable expression, and said, "Well...perhaps you're just looking at things the wrong way. Perhaps you are getting results. Just not the ones you were expecting."

Re: Meet & Mingle

[identity profile] cheerfulgoth.livejournal.com 2006-09-08 09:42 pm (UTC)(link)
"..." Abby looked at Aziraphale for a moment and rolled her eyes. "That's very helpful."

"I will figure this out. Science will find the truth in the end." She pointed a finger in his face and grinned.
