Faculty Party - Friday Afternoon

Lorelai was grateful that Bucky took a nap for part of the morning. It gave her plenty of time to transport food from the diner to the teacher's lounge.

She got everything set up and even decorated the lounge so it would be a little more festive. Since it's Lorelai, that means she hung up some balloons and streamers and covered everything with glitter.

Everything was ready in plenty of time and she was sitting on one of the couches giving Bucky a bottle, waiting for people to start showing up.

"So did we make it through the first week of classes without any teacher killing a student?" John asked wryly.

Zoe laughed. "Yes, as a matter of fact, we did. And as far as I know, none of the students are currently animals either. It might just be a fall miracle."

"That's very good news. I'd hate to have to field questions in my next class about werechipmunks or something."

"That would be a very unfortunate use of class time, I think. Have you had any more protesters come by?" she asked.

"No. Just one student who missed class since he was sick." He smiled. "It may not have been the best way to handle the situation, but maybe I scared Blair was it? off for good."

"For the sake of your sanity, I certainly hope so," Zoe said. "And if he does come back, you'll know how to handle him."

"Yes. And if that doesn't work, there's always the polergiest option held in reserve."

"Indeed. Have you really fought all of the things you're teaching in your class, or are you making some of them up?" she asked curiously.

"I really wish I was making some of them up," John said with a sigh. "But no, my lesson plan is all being drawn from up close and personal experience."

"Well, consider me impressed nonetheless. I thought I've gone up against some strange things in my time, but at least they've all been human. Mostly."

"I think it's harder to go up against humans sometimes than it is a demon ," John said. "Demons are evil through and through; with humans things are usually a lot more... murky."

"We've got some humans back home that could probably pass for demons. Only human thing about them is that's what they started out as," Zoe said. "Before they all went crazy, that is."

John nodded. "Those are always the toughest of all -- things that were human once, but have been infected or possessed or just plain unlucky and have become something less. And dangerous."

Zoe nodded as well. "We call them Reavers. They were infected by a chemical that was meant to make people serene and peaceful. Instead, it made them crazy and turned them into viscious cannibals." She paused for a moment, thinking. "You're right, I bet demons would be easier to deal with."

"Listen, would you like to go out for a drink sometime?" John asked on impulse. "It's not every day I meet someone I can trade war stories with."

"Sure," Zoe said, smiling a little broader at that question. "It's not every day I meet someone like that either."

"Tomorrow night?" John suggested. "Does the principal get Saturdays off?"
