Faculty Meeting - Friday Morning

As promised on the notices that went out to everyone on the staff, there was free food in the teacher's lounge, to entice people to come and stay for the faculty meeting - an assortment of pies, along with coffee and tea.

Yes, the dartboard with Jamie Madrox's face was still up. For therapeutic reasons, of course.

Biff raised a hand. "What's the ruling on slapping the stupid out of students? I've got one that thinks angels aren't glowing because all the stupidity is leaking out of them and thinks Lucifer's a pretty great guy. I have a feeling words aren't going to be enough."

"Generally, we try to avoid hitting students, and use detention instead," Zoe said. "Even if they do seem extraordinarily dim on whatever subject you're teaching."

Biff looked very, very disappointed. "Do they get hit in detention?"

Zoe smiled. "They can if the detention is set up that way."

"Ooooh," Biff replied. "Can we make special requests to the teachers running it that week?"

Biff was kind of evil.

That was okay. Zoe didn't mind that kind of evil.

"We're always striving for greater communication and cooperation between the teachers," she said.

Biff grinned. "I'm a great communicator. I have the gift of tongues and everything."

"I'm sure that gift will get you quite far with the teachers who are single," Zoe replied.

Biff took the news in stride. "I haven't gotten slapped yet!" he replied with a wink.

Ghanima rolled her eyes and leaned in closer to him. "I feel that verbal humiliation works better. They carry their bruised egos a lot longer than a bruised head," she murmured softly.

"I'm pretty sure a couple of them are so dim that the insults fly right over them. Fun for me, but not a great learning tool," he replied, winking.

"Does it matter if they understand what you're saying? What they will understand, and quite clearly, is the stifled giggles of their classmates," she said solemnly. "I hear it's quite effective."

"Although mine are astonishingly well-behaved, so I haven't yet had to resort to any such drastic measures."

"I have a bet with myself that I can get one's head to spin completely around. She's in a religion class and hates religion."

"Well, then, she can try and bribe the office staff for a transfer if she doesn't like it." Ghanima was clearly unsympathetic. "She should have signed up for my class on mythology instead."

"Except for the fact where I insist that my students leave their ethnocentric biases at the door, and treat each and every mythology we study with the respect and dignity due to any religion. Shoot. She's screwed."

Biff grinned. "I think she's suffering under the illusion that her people are the only ones in history who've been persecuted for being different."

"Her people aren't the first or the last," Ghani said dryly. "It doesn't get any better, at least not on this world. It's simply human nature."

"Preaching to the choir," Biff said, nodding. "My people didn't even count as citizens where we lived and we were there first. Screaming at me isn't going to change that."

"That's what you get for signing up to teach religion to hormonal teenagers," she quipped. "Or are you another draftee?"

"I was signed up by an angel who clearly hates me," Biff told her.

"I was signed up by my brother, who thinks he's funnier than he is." Ghanima leaned back against the wall and grinned at Biff. "Funny. The office staff must have done at least some research before pairing us up."

Biff grinned. "I'm betting it was the moose."
