Anakin snickered. "Poor guy. Really."

"Nah, don't feel bad for him," Drake said. "He was one of those evil type demons. Source of All and all. And even if he wasn't, he deserved it for those ridiculous red wings he used to insist on wearing."

Anakin blinked. "Did he have a matching red head, by any chance?" he asked, thinking back forever ago to a day Bel had been stuck looking like a cheap Darth Maul knockoff.

Bel surely would've insisted that Darth Maul was a cheap Bel knockoff, thank you very much.

"Wing boy didn't like to show his face," Drake said. "Half of it got all scarred in the fighting after he claimed the title of the Source. He got a lot better looking when he jumped into the body of my BFF, but at the expense of said BFF, unfortunately."

Anakin would have countered that they were both jackasses, so the point was probably moot.

He winced almost sympathetically. "No cloning technology available in your world? It's how we dealt with bodies that were unusable."

If by "we" you only meant "the Emperor," since the breathing suit had hardly been a fashion choice for Anakin.

Drake...probably would have agreed. Both about the jackasses and the dubious fashion of the breathing suit, but he would've given a thumbs up to the creepy and ominous factor.

"No cloning, just magic," Drake said. "The Source, party pooper that he is, is an eternal mantle of power that hops from body to body if he gets his ass vanquished. There needs to be a magical or blood connection, so I think right now he's floating around and sulking, which is good at least."

"The Emperor back home tried that for a while," Anakin said, "but he used clones of himself." He smiled. "At least until I got rid of all of them. Shame. Really."

"Good on you!" Drake said. "I did a little damage here and there to Sinister and Evil Plans during my dubious demonic career, but for the most part I had to settle for pranks. The Source wanted my head on a platter a couple times -- okay, more like dozens -- but my buddy Cole saved my hide."

Blink.

Blink blink blink.

"He wouldn't also happen to go by Belthazor, would he?"

"He used to," Drake said, "back when he was all woe is me, I am an evil demon cursed with a soul, won't someone pull this icky thing out of me so I can go be evil like the other kids? If I had a nickle for every time I threw something at his head when he acted like that, I'd be a very rich demon." He eyed Anakin. "Why, you know him?"

Anakin snickered. "I went to high school with him. Well, some version of him, anyway."

"More than one Cole...I'm not sure if that's cause to fear, have really dirty thoughts, or to laugh my ass off," Drake mused. "Couldn't have been my Cole, I'm pretty sure he never went to high school. My Cole's also kind of dead. Kind of. Not quite. He gets around for a dead guy. He's the one who helped hook me up with the deal to become human."

Anakin shook his head, laughing. "Of course he is," he said. "He has a bit of a habit of that, I guess. He was kind of dead here for a while, or so I heard. I wasn't here then."

"My Cole got himself possessed by the Source, like I said," Drake said. "He got vanquished, came back just sliiiiiightly insane, which is wife didn't take well, messy divorce, got his ass vanquished again, and now he's chilling in limbo and trying to help the ex-wife and her sisters. He's turned into quite the forgiving type, big change from his 'look at me, I'm a big tough demon' days. I never bought that act anyway; he was always a pussycat."

Anakin's lips quirked up. Imagining Bel as a pussycat would definitely happen the next time he saw him.

"Ex-wife, huh?" he said. "Last I heard, he was doing a threesome thing while living in a hotel run by a vampire with a soul."

"Vampire, not a surprise," Drake said. "But threesome? Far as I know, the Colethazor doesn't like to share. Awww, maybe high school made him a better demon."

"We should add that to the brochure," Anakin said dryly.

Drake grinned. "Am I detecting a wee note of hostility? Somehow, I'm not surprised."

"We weren't wildly fond of each other, no," Anakin replied. Shocking, huh?

Drake clutched at his heart. "Color me shocked," he snickered. "Even in the Underworld he Did Not Play Well With Others. If you were weaker, he wouldn't notice you unless he had a use for you. If you were as strong or stronger, he'd either want your approval or hate you. I'll take a wild stab in the dark and say door number three?"

Anakin inclined his head. "He devoted most of my senior year to flinging himself at the vampire."

"He always had a bit of a fang fetish," Drake mused. "Vampires are exiled from the Underworld where we're from. Big mess with not recognizing the Source's authority. Cole'd work with them anyway as his own little rebellion."

"As payback for being the Source's puppet, or just to be annoying?" Anakin asked.

"Depended on what channel he was on that day," Drake said. "There's grr argh, I'm an evil demon and I'll do whatever it takes to get the job done; or I hate everyone so I'll break the rules; or even I'm tormented by my sooooooul so I don't know what I'm doing." Drake put his hands on his hips and rolled his eyes. "Honestly, it was impossible living with him sometimes."

"Only sometimes?" Anakin replied.
