Staff Meeting, After Classes, January 9

The teacher's lounge was once again set up for the staff meeting, with plenty of food and drinks, and one very glaring principal. Mwahaha!

[New teachers, make sure you check your invites to accept your invite to the comm, otherwise it'll screen your comments.]

Fraser's first reaction was a quick glance around the room. His second was one of surprise and suspicion.

His third was one of nerves because, really, he didn't want to perform anything for anyone. He was not an actor.

"Could you have been misinformed?" Fraser asked hopefully.

"Nope!" Deadpool informed him cheerfully. "And I think you'd be a fabulous person to lecture children about drug use. Just do that disapproving thing you like to do when I get all talking about revenge on Robin for certain things. Or when we try to make you watch porn. Method acting."

Tyler did not like this on several levels, and his frown probably showed it. First, he thought it was absurd to single out illegal drugs given the level of underage drinking on the island. Second ... well. He had had a prescription for his Seconal, you know, in 2018. It was just easier to get it on the gray market then to actually explain the whole 'Hi, I need this so the voice in my head doesn't take over and try to blow up a building' to a new doctor. He wasn't sure that explanation would get him past a pee test, though.

But whatever. He could play nice. He looked around for someone to work with who might not mind his bitching.

If Minsc had a little more of an interpersonal and aware relationship with his brain, he would have thought it odd how they'd screen for illegal drugs in the teachers and not sanity.

But, since he didn't, and the concept of illegal drugs where he came from was basically non-existent, he just figured it wouldn't hurt for a healer check-up, anyway, and that, oh, man, these chips here were really tasty. Om nom nom.

Ghanima did not even bother to hide her amusement. The irony of the situation, especially considering the conversation she'd had with Merlin on Monday, was just too damned funny for words.

"You are aware that like Miss Corrino before us, my brother and I are melange addicts?" she asked bluntly. It was not as if her use of the Spice was a secret. "For me to lecture students about drug use would be hypocritical at best, especially considering the vast amounts of underage drinking that occurs on this campus."

It was like she had read his ping his mind, and Tyler leaned toward Ghanima after she was done talking to Zoe.

"Think we should work together?" he asked. "It sounds like we're sympatico on this one."

"If, by 'simpatico', you mean that I have an extremely low opinion of this farce, then you are correct," Ghanima replied quietly. "Perhaps we should warn the little darlings away from the perils of caffeine, if we are going to be responsible adults."

"That. That's why we should collaborate." Tyler glanced down at his mug reluctantly. "Caffeine? I can tell you it stunted my growth."

Given that he was past six feet tall, it might be assumed he was joking.

Ghanima nodded in agreement. "I am not putting any more effort into this than we have to," she murmured. "Next week, at Caritas? We might as well take advantage of our adult privileges while we brainstorm."

"We just don't want the kids to do drugs that are illegal here." A beat. "Non-alcohol ones. Because if we took that away, they'd revolt and it would be Umbridge aaaaall over again."

The man in the red bodysuit was worried about the children doing drugs. Fantastic.

"So we are to pick and choose which laws are enforced and which are not?" she asked, folding her arms. "My, how very autocratic of us. Simply charming."

[identity profile] mouthy-merc.livejournal.com 2009-01-09 06:45 pm (UTC)(link)
"Isn't that what being an adult is about?" Deadpool asked very slowly. "And, really, I could care less what laws they follow and what they don't. I just wanna see this assembly."

A beat.

"And J. Jonah Jameson get a goddamn haircut!" The hair. It mocked him.

Marshall had a mild freak-out at the mention of a drug test but remembered it had been years since he last enjoyed...sandwiches. He nothing to worry about. He could totally teach some anti-drug thing. He knew a lot about drugs. Well, sandwiches, anyway.

Marshall knew a lot about sandwiches.

A lot.

Mohinder was split between wondering how they were classifying drugs as illegal - here and now in the US - and interest in the lab facilities of the clinic, if they were capable of that kind of precise identification.

"I suppose there's a penalty if someone's found to be on drugs?" Mohinder asked offhanded, thinking through what he knew of caffiene overdoses.

"But if it is," Tyler put in, "aren't we all being punished for something you don't even know we did? I know we work at a high school, but we aren't students."

Algren... Really wasn't sure what sort of drugs they were talking about, here. And his expression probably said as much, as well.

Still and all, if they needed him to make a stop at the clinic, he would make a stop at the clinic. Just so long as he wasn't making $20 a week, he'd take all the tests they needed him to take.

"I beg your pardon?" Miss Bennet asked, frowning around the room. "What is this, exactly? The vices of indulgence?"

She was to take an examination of some form, she gathered that much, but for the rest, she was at a loss.

Laudanum, opium, absinthe: all perfectly legal, in her time.

Ghanima moved next to Elizabeth and leaned in to quietly explain to her friend what Principal Winchester was talking about.

Including what the other woman meant regarding a drug test.

[identity profile] clevermsbennet.livejournal.com 2009-01-09 07:09 pm (UTC)(link)
"If these things are illegal, isn't this a matter for the law enforcement?" Elizabeth said dryly. "If our behavior outside the classroom is causing us to teach badly, we should be dismissed for teaching badly, and if it is not, I daresay I cannot see the point."

Her eyes widened at the specifics of drug testing.

"You cannot be serious. They ..." She closed her eyes. "I am not doing that."

"Of course somebody on staff is on drugs. That's why he's wearing that cheap red outfit. Nobody would wear that unless they were high on something," Jonah said. He had naturally assumed that Zoe's special glare to him was a sign of thanks for bringing Deadpool's obvious meth habit to her attention.

Even if he hadn't spoken a word to her before now.
