Staff Meeting, After Classes, January 9

The teacher's lounge was once again set up for the staff meeting, with plenty of food and drinks, and one very glaring principal. ~~Mwahaha!~~

Enjoy the food, meet the new teachers, and embrace the time before your impending doom.

"First of all, I want to welcome our new teachers," Zoe started. "I hope the first week has been good for all of you, because it's sounded like everyone's off to a nice start.

"Unfortunately, I do have some serious and pressing business today. Deadpool and I have been informed that some members of the staff might be partaking in illegal drugs." If Ronon and Jonah got special glares, well, this was not one of Zoe's more subtle moments. "We're very worried about what might happen if the students catch word of this, so we've decided to take a preventative measure. Next Friday, we're going to have an anti-drug assembly for the students. And by 'we' I mean all of you. We need you all to pair up and pick a drug to inform the students about. If you don't pick someone to work with, Deadpool and I will choose someone for you. Consider this a further exercise in teaching, and if you learn something yourselves, that's even better.

"Also, we're going to need all of you to go to the clinic and take a drug test," Zoe added. "Dr. Jones has agreed to discreetly run the tests so that none of the students who work at the clinic will know what's going on. She works on Wednesdays, so I would recommend that you go in then. Are there any questions?"

If anyone has anything else to bring up.

If some problem children have already popped up in the first week.

Zoe was around if anyone wanted to speak to her privately, about their painful drug habits or anything.

Okay, so obviously all of this is handwavable and voluntary. There will be an assembly next week, and anyone who comes up with something for their teachers to present will have our undying love. We wanted to give everyone a chance for some crack (the good and safe kind, mwahaha). You can totally handwave that you went to the clinic, but if you want something to be found in the testing, there will be a space for that at the clinic. And I know I'm probably forgetting things, so ask me down here if you need to.

Minsc always loved these staff meetings. He loved anything where there was free food that you didn't even really have to worry about being poisoned.

For the most part.

Tyler took a large mug of coffee and picked at a muffin as he eyeballed the crowd.

Fraser poured himself a rather large cup of coffee. And he hadn't even heard today's business yet.

Fraser's first reaction was a quick glance around the room. His second was one of surprise and suspicion.

His third was one of nerves because, really, he didn't want to perform anything for anyone. He was not an actor.

"Could you have been misinformed?" Fraser asked hopefully.

Tyler did not like this on several levels, and his frown probably showed it. First, he thought it was absurd to single out illegal drugs given the level of underage drinking on the island. Second ... well. He had had a prescription for his Seconal, you know, in 2018. It was just easier to get it on the gray market then to actually explain the whole 'Hi, I need this so the voice in my head doesn't take over and try to blow up a building' to a new doctor. He wasn't sure that explanation would get him past a pee test, though.

But whatever. He could play nice. He looked around for someone to work with who might not mind his bitching.

Tyler didn't consider his drug habit painful, but he was going to bother the principal about it anyhow.

"I take medication so you don't have to kick me off the island again," he told her bluntly. "You're in favor of that, right?"

If Minsc had a little more of an interpersonal and aware relationship with his brain, he would have thought it odd how they'd screen for illegal drugs in the teachers and not sanity.

But, since he didn't, and the concept of illegal drugs where he came from was basically non-existent, he just figured it wouldn't hurt for a healer check-up, anyway, and that, oh, man, these chips here were really tasty. Om nom nom.

Far be it from Ghanima to pass up the chance to get coffee and tease her new coworkers! She grabbed a drink and a pastry before settling down in her favorite corner spot.

Ghanima did not even bother to hide her amusement. The irony of the situation, especially considering the conversation she'd had with Merlin on Monday, was just too damned funny for words.

"You are aware that like Miss Corrino before us, my brother and I are melange addicts?" she asked bluntly. It was not as if her use of the Spice was a secret. "For me to lecture students about drug use would be hypocritical at best, especially considering the vast amounts of underage drinking that occurs on this campus."

Indiana grumpily came in with an armload of bananas and banana bread which he promptly added to the buffet of food.

He hoped to God someone would take them away.

In his pre-coffee state, Mohinder was largely oblivious to anything that wasn't high in caffiene. Once he had that he snagged a cookie before looking around the room.

It was like she had read ~~his ping~~ his mind, and Tyler leaned toward Ghanima after she was done talking to Zoe.

"Think we should work together?" he asked. "It sounds like we're sympatico on this one."

"Your medication isn't illegal," Zoe said. At least, she was assuming it wasn't. "And I'm very much in favor of that. It does more good than harm."

Yzma paused dramatically in the doorway for a moment.

No crash of thunder.

Dammit.

Muttering to herself, she stalked over to the food.

"My prescription's on the iffy side," Tyler told her quietly. "Which I could probably clear up with Dr. Jones."

Marshall was upset he got dragged away from Rumor Gal for this but, hey, free food. There ain't nothing wrong with that.

Marshall had a mild freak-out at the mention of a drug test but remembered it had been years since he last enjoyed...sandwiches. He nothing to worry about. He could totally teach some anti-drug thing. He knew a lot about drugs. Well, sandwiches, anyway.

Marshall knew a lot about sandwiches.

A lot.

Mohinder was split between wondering how they were classifying drugs as illegal - here and now in the US - and interest in the lab facilities of the clinic, if they were capable of that kind of precise identification.

"I suppose there's a penalty if someone's found to be on drugs?" Mohinder asked offhanded, thinking through what he knew of caffiene overdoses.

Anakin smiled at her. "I met your twin brother the other day."
